Professional Management

Our Staff

Joanna and Richard Read are qualified social workers who both have 25 years’ care experience. This includes:
• Several years as support workers (carers) for adults with mental health and/or learning disabilities
• Working as field social workers covering mental health and learning disabilities
• Ten years managing and directing our former company, which progressed to three high support care homes and a supported independent home and flats for those who had managed to move on to further independence with continued support.

We specialised in working with adults (18 to 65) with complex mental disorders and challenging behaviour and we have had a lot of success stories.

In 2012 we changed our focus and formed our new company, Absolute Care South West. We have embraced a new challenge, supporting adults exclusively in their own homes. We support and provide care for adults of any age who would benefit from it, although the larger portion of our clients are older adults.

Management Responsibilities
Richard and Joanna have overall responsibility to ensure that:

• Clients are provided with a high level of care and support in their own homes and at all times when they are with Absolute Care South West
• Our aims and objectives are achieved and that all those involved with Absolute Care South West (staff and service users) are aware of these and a part of it
• The company is well managed
• Our policies and procedures are implemented
• That Absolute Care South West complies with the Social Care Act 2008 and regulations, General Social Care Council codes of practice and other legal requirements
• That any staff who work directly with our clients are properly (DBS) police checked, have proper references in place and are suitably qualified and experienced to do their job to the expected high standard
• The clients, their families and friends, and the staff all feel valued and that their opinions matter, and ultimately that both Joanna (Registered Manager) and Richard (Managing Associate) are approachable and accessible
Personal Statement by Joanna Read
Richard and I live in Honiton with our family. We have three children, two boys and a little girl. We have a beautiful red Labrador, Woody, who comes to work with us in the office, as well as two cats and two hamsters.

Although Richard and I have spent the former part of our professional working lives with younger adults, our training, skills and experience have been very relevant and essential to working with all clients across the care spectrum. Due to our success in our former business running care homes, and our natural ability in care, we went on to embrace a new challenge in widening the net beyond just working with people with mental disorders. We now offer support to anyone we think we can help in their own homes. We have been doing this to the best of our ability for the last four years.

Our objectives are to help people retain and hopefully improve their quality of life and independence while living in their own homes.
